oger D. Magneson was born and raised in the beautiful Puget Sound country where he graduated from East High School in Bremerton, Washington. After high school he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, and upon graduation served in armor and armored cavalry units in Germany and Texas. After the army he worked as a technical writer, then spent fourteen years in human resources, and in 1990 was assigned to Family History Human Resources. In 1994 he was transferred to operational units of the Family History Department, where he was supervisor of International Reference, and worked in Extraction Support, Family History Center Support, as well as International Cataloging.
In 2005, Roger received a masters degree in library science from Emporia State University and also an achievement award for “academic excellence, leadership and professional promise” from the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society. In May of 2005, Roger moved from International Cataloging to a new unit of FamilySearch called Historical Family Reconstitution, and as a result of this move, in October that same year, the Norway Project was launched. To use Roger’s words, he is married to “the world-class genealogist,” Nola Kraut Magneson. They have ten children.
