smund Bjørnstad, a noted Norwegian agronomist, is a 2008-2009 Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Minnesota where he is working on a book project on the biological and human history of the grains we eat. Born in 1951 in Rjukan (Tinn), he is Professor of Plant Breeding in the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, with a wide experience in breeding research in small grain species. He is an elected member of the Norwegian Writers Association, and has previously had six books published, including a collection of translated poems. A new collection of poems will be published by Aschehoug in Oslo next September.
